Fad Diets:  Which ones are Popular?

There are tons of fad diets out there.  Which ones are popular will vary from time to time, as some will fade faster than others will, and some may even make a comeback at another time later on.  Right now, several crash diets are popular, and we will discuss a few of them.

Cabbage Soup Diet:   This diet’s claim to fame is that you will lose up to 20lbs in 7 days.  While this may be true, you will probably only lose water weight.  (It actually says that on the website!)  To follow this diet, you should follow the guidelines set forth for each day, and do not use the diet for more than 7 days.  If you want to do it again, wait at least two weeks before starting it for another 7 days.  Prepare the Cabbage Soup recipe, and lots of it.  Each day sets forth some wacky dietary guideline for a reason, with the soup being unlimited.  It’s really meant to jump start your for another diet that will keep your body ready.

Lemon Diet: This lemonade diet serves to detoxify your body and will flush toxins and rid you of up to 20 pounds.  It is frequently used in Hollywood.  It is a 10 day fast where you eat no food!  You must make the lemonade following a specific recipe.

Popcorn Diet:  This diet is supposed to be helpful for people who love snacking.  Eat healthy, balanced meals, replacing all of you snack times with plain popcorn.  It is bland, so it will get boring quickly, and likely fail.  However, popcorn is good for you with high fiber and low calories, if you can resist the butter, and salt.

Grapefruit Diet:  This diet is based on eating many grapefruit for 12 days to kick-start your metabolism.  You must take two days off after 12 dieting days.  The grapefruit is a no fat, low calorie, low sodium, “fat burning” fruit.  If done correctly this diet claims you can lose up to 10 pounds in those 12 days, and even says most of the weight is from fluid loss.  This is most certainly not the healthy kind of weight loss.  You should be losing fat, along with water.

We have not even begun to scratch the surface on fad diets!  Eat healthy, exercise often, and you will lose the weight the right way, the sensible and healthy way!
