Atkins Diet Side Effects - Good and Bad Points of the Atkins Diet
The Atkins diet — a controversial diet that most people either love or hate. Unfortunately, love and hate are two strong emotions. They tend to cloud peoples’ judgments, so they cannot approach the issue logically. That is why I will try to do with this article, as I hope to present unbiased facts about the advantages and disadvantages the Atkins diet.
The results seem to speak for themselves. We all know someone who went on the Atkins diet and was able to lose a considerable amount of weight in a short period of time. That same type of person wasn’t able to lose that weight on any other type of diet. So it seemed at the Atkins diet is effective. Or is it?
It’s not as simple as that. There are two kinds of results — temporary results and permanent results. Most scientific studies are in agreement with one fact — over a five-year period time, less than 5% of people who were on an Atkins diet kept the weight off. Actually, in a majority cases people who were on Atkins ended up gaining more weight in the end.
The Atkins diet’s strong point is also its weakness. It does cause you to lose weight, but it is usually only a temporary solution. Therefore, the best approach for the Atkins diet seems to be to use it as a transitory diet to something more permanent. For example, it could be a way for you to jumpstart the weight-loss process as you try to slowly modify your eating habits. However, if you think you can follow the diet for the rest of your life, you’re probably going to be in for a nasty surprise.
Even if you are just using it for a temporary solution, there are still several disadvantages. First of all, the Atkins diet causes your body to go into ketosis. The results of ketosis is bad breath. In addition, some people report that they feel nausea, dizziness and suffer headaches when they first go on the Atkins diet.
Of course, the advantages are that you can eat a variety of different delicious foods, even those filled with a lot of saturated fats. It’s also easy to follow the diet and it is usually less expensive than other dieting fads out there.
Another big disadvantage is that it goes against conventional nutritional advice.
